Lula doesn't know how to buy Brazilian

Brazilian president Mr. Lula has a funny problem, every new job generate in Brazil during the last 6 years prior to September Lehman Brothers debacle were because of him, right, of course.

Now that many companies have to adjust to lower orders, lower expectations, etc... the companies that are lay off people are bandits.

That a union man with very little formal education can't understand very well how to run a company is understandable, that the people surrounding him can't either is scary.

Embraer one of the few major Brazilian exporters had to lay off some 4,200 employees recently and the president of Brazil want an explanation from Embraer CEO.

Mr. President, if those jobs are so important, here are a few questions for you to think about very carefully.

Why don't you sell you Airbus 319 and replace it by an EMBRAER 195, why not buy Brazilian for a change?

Why the Defense Minister has not decided on the C390 project for the Brazilian Airforces and Brazilian Army, according to the press just this alone represent a big ticket item for Embraer, that can help keep those jobs.

Every one knows that Congonhas and Santos Dummont airports are operating on he limit with Boeing 737, Airbus 319 and 320, why not change the regulation and push TAM, Gol and other airlines to operate with Embraer 190?

Why can't Brazil change the taxation for those planes for the Brazilian airlines and help them buy Brazilian for less?

Why Brazil can't reduce the taxes for Brazilian airlines so they can better compete with foreign airlines.

If you put your people to work on more important things instead of creating problems with Italia, instead of supporting Chavez and his dictatorship state we would probably would be able to address and solve more problems in Brazil.

Mr. Lula is great to sell Brazilian, you are tryingver y hard, but you should also lead by example buying Brazilian products.

Facebook change of terms

The interesting fact here is that a lot of people go to the web to show off, a lot of people go to facebook to meet with friends but sometimes also to express themselves more freely without anyone at close distance.

The web grants this, you can become a public figure without being very close to your public.

What will happen to pictures, poems, notes, 25 random things it's not really the question, the real issue is that now facebook like GM will probably have to pay for the disk space, energy and other resources they are using and they are trying to find a way to pay for all that cost.

Íf we want to have a free place to post our photos, ideas, chat, keep in touch maybe this is a relatively inexpensive price for that.

If we are not professional photographers, but we have taken some nice pictures, which we will never sell why they can't be published around the globe?

Specially if they come with a notice that this picture comes from facebook/userid or name, why not?

If we want exposure there is no better way to get us cover page, exposure, etc...
People have to remember that there is no free lunch so maybe the price tag for free space would be sharing the content with the world.

Now regarding the change in the term, I really would like to know if on the millions of facebook members there aren't at least a few hundreds Ivy league top lawyers to check this contract change.

Buy American

I really have a hard time understanding the concept of Buy American, why?
Because today, GM, Ford and Chrysler have a lot of unsold cars all over the patio in the US and although many of those cars are flex fuel capable why they are not sent to be sold in Brazil at very aggressive prices?
An example would be a F150, which has an average cost in the US of $ 15,000.00, a car like this in Brazil is sold easily for $ 60,000.00 by independent dealers, if Ford were to bring those cars directly to the local market they would be able to sell them for $ 30,000.00 with a very healthy margin and would increase the demand since the price would be much lower.
American made flex fuel cars can be easily adapted to run on 100% ethanol fuel so this is not a very complex problem.
Interest rates in Brazil for financing vehicles are somewhere between 0.99% per month to 3.5% per month, much higher then the current US rates.
Today american automakers are selling cars for anything just to get rid of them, those same conditions are not needed in Brazil and at the same time there is a huge demand for cars with better options then the existing offers in the Brazilian market, so why it is so difficult for Detroit to look down to South America and start selling those cars in Brazil.
Brazil won't buy all the excess supply, but can help reduce this excess and we all know that on times of shortage every point can make a difference.

Flying back home!

So one of the greatest pleasure in life should be the return flight home, right?
Wrong! With all this crisis the companies are using old planes, they have taken so many services that a 3 hours flight becomes a not so pleasant experience anymore.
Flights are packed because we have less flights.
Old planes have no entertainement.
Old planes have crampy lavatories.
The AC now sometimes is not connected when you board.
The only thing that is great is the implementation of the priority access.
So I'm crampy because my first leg from SFO to GRU via DFW was not good.
Such is life, but I needed to register it here.

Seven lifes are gone!

Today I'm in Sunnyvale working on a new gig, preparing to go back to Brazil to present my new company to prospects and watch on the news about a real life tragedy that came with the debacle of the world economy.
A father kill his five kids and his wife because both him and his wife lost their jobs. Seven lifes are gone because people failed to do their jobs.
Seven lifes are gone because of greedy.
Seven lifes are gone because of lack of control.
Seven lifes are gone because SOX is not working.
Seven lifes are gone because people have no clue what to do.
If we look in third world countries this level of dispear has been endured by millions of people, but most of them didn't have mortages, didn't have cars, didn't have credit cards, didn't have health insurance, didn't have life insurance, didn't have 401k, didn't have a lot of things.
We have to fix this, we can't let all this people go this way.
